GIS, Data Processing,
Data Interpretation and Prospectivity Analysis
Mackay & Schnellmann Pty Limited has considerable
expertise in Geographical Information Systems and their application
to mineral exploration and prospectivity analysis. Computing services
include image processing of Landsat, radar, airborne MSS and geophysical
data optionally followed by a specialist prospectivity analysis.
Digital data compilation may include geological, geochemical, geophysical
and cadastral information that is then managed by either Mackay
& Schnellmann Pty Limited or the client. Software includes ER
Mapper, ArcView, MapInfo, Spatial Analyst, GenGIS and Micromine.
The company specialises in target definition from a blend of technological
and geological expertise achieved by integrating remote sensing
interpretations with traditional ground truthing.
Examples of recent GIS, data management and prospectivity
analysis assignments are:
INDIA, 2001
Over a three year period, an interactive GIs database was designed
for the compilation of exploration results covering the 5000 km2
Raipur Kimberlite Field. Digital layers include satellite imagery,
geological and structural mapping, geomorphological regimes, geochemical
and mineragraphic results and EM and magnetometry data. The database
was managed during ongoing exploration and subsequently provided
to the client for future exploration activities. Training of the
client's personnel in both GIS and data management was completed.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA, 2000
Twenty five target areas for future diamond exploration in the Ellendale
area were identified for a Western Australian explorer. The new
targets were developed by integrating results from structural, geomorphological
and geological interpretations using Landsat TM satellite imagery
with airborne EM and magnetic data and the results of previous exploration.
The study identified both primary and alluvial diamond targets and
demonstrated considerable scope for future exploration.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA, 2000
A leading mining software company approached us to extend their
current capabilities to include GIS software. The project involved
rewriting and updating existing manuals for training courses and
the delivery of such courses specifically for ArcView and GenGIS
software.
LIBERIA, 1999
Landsat TM interpretations were carried out on behalf of European
clients in two successive years over the Lofa River region to identify
areas prospective for alluvial diamonds.
ANGOLA, 1997
A remote sensing study using SPOT imagery was undertaken to analyse
the influence on alluvial diamond occurrences of the evolution of
drainage channels within a major river system.
Additional examples of professional assignments
carried out by Mackay and Schnellmann Pty Limited that have involved
GIS, data management and prospectivity analysis related activities
