Exploration
Exploration programmes have been designed, costed,
implemented and managed by Mackay & Schnellmann Pty Limited
both in Australia and other parts of the world and often in logistically
difficult locations under inhospitable conditions.
Examples of recent exploration assignments are:
INDIA, 2000
A diamond exploration programme was designed and costed for a joint
venture between an Indian and a Western Australian company. Advice
was given on tenement applications with exploration commencing in
1999. Responsibilities included setting up local exploration and
logistical capabilities and the implementation and supervision of
specialist contract services.
GUINEA, 2000
Advice was provided on the selection of tenement areas with potential
for alluvial diamond deposits. A one year exploration programme
was designed and costed that entailed research of local resources
and capabilities as well as sourcing contractors in Australia and
other countries.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA, 1999
Geological services including quality assurance were provided for
a due diligence and validation programme on the Hope Downs iron
deposits. Responsibility was taken for the day to day running of
up to four core and a RC drill rig plus other specialist contractors.
Activities included supervision of RC and core hole drilling; geological
and geotechnical logging of core; supervision of down hole geophysical
logging and implementation of a major density determination programme.
Subsequent to the field work, office activities were undertaken.
INDIA, 1996
Over a three year period, consultancy services were provided for
UNDP funded assistance to Orissa state to enhance local expertise
in diamond exploration. The assignment included assessing primary
and alluvial exploration targets; advising on exploration strategies
and field techniques; training geologists and other personnel in
diamond exploration and sample processing techniques and supervising
sample processing facilities and a laboratory. The programme identified
kimberlitic indicator minerals in previously unexplored terrain
and laid the foundation for future diamond exploration.
KAZAKHSTAN, 1994
Responsible for setting up an exploration team of expatriate and
local geologists plus translators and other staff. Activities included
tenement negotiations; setting up an office and field travel capability;
assessing the gold, base metal and diamond potential of a 45 000
km2
area from site visits and old records; evaluating the technical
capabilities of local contractors and negotiating contracts; designing
and costing exploration programmes and assessing the effectiveness
of local drilling, geochemical and geophysical exploration techniques
that are very different from those of western countries.
Additional examples of professional assignments
carried out by Mackay and Schnellmann Pty Limited that have involved
exploration related activities will be found on the other Expertise
