With more than 20 years of experience in
geomorphology and photogeology, Richard Russel has worked in Australia,
China, Cyprus, Indonesia, Mauritania, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan,
the United Kingdom and other countries in Africa and the Middle
East. He has been associated with Mackay & Schnellmann Pty Limited
on a contractual basis since the mid 1990s in carrying out interpretation
of imagery produced by the GIS Department of Mackay & Schnellmann
Pty Limited and in prospectivity studies of mineral deposits.
Richard has experience with diamonds, gold, heavy mineral sands
and petroleum. He has identified mineral sand environments using
Landsat and aerial photographs, evaluated alluvial gold and diamond
deposits, conducted geomorphological reconstructions of palaeo alluvial
environments for defining new exploration targets and has applied
remote sensing to mineral and oil exploration using Landsat, SPOT,
NOAA, radar, airborne MSS and aerial photography and has experience
in geophysical data interpretation.
Richard has also undertaken erosion and sedimentation hazard studies
and flood, landslide and sand hazard mapping for urban and engineering
developments.
